More Than Learning to Code

A child can learn what a loop or function is.

But game development teaches them why and when to use it.

Students don't learn Lua
in isolation.

The curriculum progressively introduces these systems as students build increasingly sophisticated games.

They use programming to create:

  • Interactive doors
  • Moving platforms
  • Coin systems
  • Scoreboards
  • Checkpoints
  • Win conditions
  • GUI interfaces
  • Tools and inventories
  • NPC interactions
  • Enemy behaviour
  • Health systems
  • Unlock systems
  • Game rounds
  • Multiplayer interactions
  • Survival mechanics
  • Tower-defense systems

The result?

Students aren't simply writing small pieces of code.

They are learning to think like game creators, programmers and systems designers.

Course Philosophy

Don't teach students to simply follow a Roblox tutorial.

Teach them to ask:

  • What am I trying to build?
  • How should it work?
  • What code do I need?
  • What happens when the player does something unexpected?
  • How can I test it?
  • How can I make it better?

From playing games to understanding games.

From understanding games to building games.

From building games to thinking like a developer.

What Makes Game Development Different from Traditional Coding?

Traditional Beginner Coding
  • Write code to solve a problem
  • Focus mainly on syntax
  • Small isolated programs
  • Follow predefined exercises
  • Logic happens in the program
  • Immediate output is often text
  • Debug code
  • Build programs
Game Development
  • Write code to create an experience
  • Combine code, design and interaction
  • Complete interactive systems
  • Design and build original ideas
  • Logic controls a living game world
  • Players interact with the result
  • Debug gameplay and systems
  • Build experiences

Game development connects multiple disciplines.

Students combine:

Programming Mathematics Logic 3D Design Storytelling User Experience Problem Solving Systems Thinking

That is why game development can be such a powerful entry point into computer science.

What Students Learn

1

Roblox Studio & 3D World Building

Students begin by learning how professional game environments are constructed.

They learn to:

  • Navigate Roblox Studio
  • Work with the Explorer and Properties panels
  • Move, scale and rotate objects
  • Build with different Parts and Materials
  • Understand collisions and anchoring
  • Design playable environments
  • Use the Terrain Editor
  • Sculpt, flatten, smooth and paint terrain
  • Create water and multi-island environments
  • Work with models and assets safely
  • Design themed environments
  • Use lighting, atmosphere, shadows and fog
  • Add decorative elements and visual effects

Projects include Fantasy Islands, Multi-Island Worlds, Medieval Villages and Environment Design challenges.

2

Real Programming with Lua

Once students begin creating worlds, they discover something important:

A beautiful game world isn't enough.

Something has to make it work.

Students learn real Lua programming concepts including:

Variables Data types Conditions Functions Loops Operators Events Tables Object creation References Debugging Modular code

But every concept is connected to a game.

For example:

Learn variables build a score system
Learn events create interactive objects
Learn conditions decide whether a player can access something
Learn functions create reusable game systems
Learn loops create timers and repeated behaviours
Learn tables manage lists and game data

This makes programming meaningful because students immediately see what their code does inside a game.

3

Game Mechanics & Interactive Systems

This is where students begin thinking like actual game developers.

They learn how to create systems such as:

Gameplay
  • Buttons
  • Doors
  • Moving platforms
  • Speed pads
  • Checkpoints
  • Win zones
  • Timers
  • Traps
  • Rewards
Game Interfaces
  • Buttons
  • Text labels
  • Score displays
  • Live UI updates
  • Player interfaces
Game Systems
  • Coins
  • Leaderboards
  • Player storage
  • Unlock systems
  • Health systems
  • Tools
  • Inventory logic
  • Save systems

Students gradually move from individual mechanics to systems that work together as a complete game.

4

NPCs, Game AI & Intelligent Behaviour

This is where game development becomes especially exciting.

Students don't just make NPCs that stand still.

They explore how characters can respond to the player and the game environment.

Additional projects introduce concepts such as:

NPC dialogue Dialogue trees Player-state decisions Intelligent item systems Health monitoring Smart doors NPC vision Raycasting Field of view Line-of-sight detection Pathfinding AI state machines Companion behaviour Enemy squads Boss behaviour Dynamic quests

For example, students can build an NPC that behaves differently depending on what the player has already done.

A character might:

Detect Decide Respond

rather than simply executing the same action every time.

The additional project ideas specifically progress from smart NPC dialogue and intelligent tools into vision systems, state-machine AI, companion AI, enemy squads, boss AI and dynamic quest systems.

5

Understanding How Game AI Works

Students are introduced to an important concept used across interactive systems:

State Machines

Instead of simply programming:

"Enemy follows player."

Students can explore behaviour such as:

IDLE PATROL SEARCH CHASE ATTACK RETURN HOME

This teaches students that intelligent behaviour can be designed as a collection of states, conditions and transitions.

The curriculum's advanced AI projects extend this thinking into boss phases, companion behaviour, dynamic quests and coordinated enemy systems.

6

Game Design & Player Experience

Great games aren't created by code alone.

Students also learn to think about the player.

They ask:

  • Is the game easy to understand?
  • Is the challenge too easy or too difficult?
  • Does the player know what to do next?
  • Are rewards meaningful?
  • Does the game provide feedback?
  • Does the level encourage exploration?
  • What happens when the player fails?
  • How can the experience become more engaging?

This introduces students to important ideas in:

Game Design User Experience Systems Thinking

They aren't just asking:

"Does my code run?"

They're learning to ask:

"Does my game work for the player?"

7

Debugging & Problem Solving

Game development rarely works perfectly on the first attempt.

A door may not open. An enemy may get stuck. A score may not update. A player may respawn in the wrong place. A script may produce an error.

Instead of seeing mistakes as failures, students learn to investigate them.

They learn to:

Observe Identify Test Debug Fix Improve

The curriculum explicitly introduces debugging through Roblox's Output window and later applies debugging to broken-script challenges and increasingly complex game systems.

This is one of the most valuable habits students develop:

Don't just ask, "Why doesn't it work?"

Ask:

"What is happening, what should happen, and where is the difference?"

8

Multiplayer & Advanced Game Systems

As students progress, they are introduced to more advanced Roblox concepts.

Topics include:

Tower-defense mechanics Enemy pathing Waves Round systems Enemy spawning RemoteEvents Client-server communication Secure scripting concepts Raycasting Hit detection Survival game systems Random disasters Countdown systems Elimination rules

These concepts expose students to the idea that modern interactive applications are not simply a collection of scripts.

They are systems that communicate and work together.

AI-Assisted Game Development

The Next Generation of Game Creation

AI is changing how games and digital experiences are created.

Modern creator tools can help developers:

Explore ideas

Understand code

Generate coding suggestions

Improve NPC dialogue

Investigate errors

Prototype systems

Develop game concepts

Experiment with content

Our approach introduces AI as a development assistant — not a replacement for the student.

Students still need to:

Think Design Code Test Evaluate Improve

The additional curriculum includes an optional Future of Roblox AI component where students can explore Roblox Assistant, AI-assisted code generation, AI-supported dialogue development and prompt engineering for game development.

The goal isn't: "Ask AI to make my game."
It is: "Learn how to use AI to become a better game creator."

Prepare the final game for the Roblox platform.

This turns every project into more than a coding exercise.

It becomes a miniature software-development experience.

What Will Your Child Build?

Throughout the program, students work on progressively more sophisticated projects.

Starter Projects

  • 🎮Simple Obby
  • 🌈Colorful Platform World
  • 🏝Fantasy Island
  • 🌋Multi-Island World
  • 🏰Medieval Village

Coding Projects

  • 💡Interactive Door
  • 🚪Smart Door System
  • 🪙Coin Collector
  • 🏆Leaderboard System
  • ⚡Speed Challenge
  • 🎯Checkpoint & Win System

Game Projects

  • 🏃Obby Challenge
  • 🧩Escape Maze
  • 👾Zombie Survival
  • ☄️Meteor Survival
  • 💰Treasure Hunt
  • 🎣Fishing Simulator
  • 🏰Tycoon Starter
  • 🎨Paintball Arena
  • 🛡Tower Defense

These project ideas allow students to experience different genres and game mechanics rather than building the same type of game repeatedly.

Advanced Game AI Projects

Students can also explore projects such as:

🐾

Pet Follower

A companion that follows the player, helps collect coins and responds to game events.

👹

Monster AI

An enemy that can transition between:

Idle Search Chase Attack Return
🧙

Dynamic Quest NPC

An NPC that provides different quests depending on the player's progress.

🛡

Guard AI

A guard that detects players using visibility and line-of-sight logic rather than simply knowing where the player is.

👑

Boss AI

A multi-phase boss whose behaviour changes as its health decreases.

🌍

Living Village

NPCs follow daily routines such as walking to the market, eating, sleeping and returning home.

These projects introduce students to increasingly sophisticated game-system thinking.

The Final Challenge

Build Your Own Roblox Game

The course culminates in a creator-style capstone project.

Students combine the skills they have developed to create a playable game.

The current curriculum culminates in a final Roblox Creator project, with the final lessons focused on building a complete game.

They may need to consider:

Game concept World design Gameplay mechanics Player objectives Coding UI Scoring NPCs Challenges Progression Testing Debugging Game polish

The goal:

Not just: "I completed a Roblox course."
But: "I built a game."

From Game Creator to Future Technologist

Roblox is the starting environment.

The skills are transferable.

Students who learn to design systems, break problems into smaller components, write code, debug, test ideas and think about user experience are building foundations that can support future learning in:

  • Computer Science
  • Software Development
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Game Development
  • 3D Design
  • Robotics
  • Interactive Applications
  • Digital Product Development

The course therefore isn't positioned as simply teaching a child how to use Roblox. It uses Roblox to teach children how to think like creators.

  • Engaging, easy to follow, fun!

After our 8th Little Coder class, my 7 year old is already counting down the days to the next session! Kyle, the teacher, is wonderfully engaging and funny, he makes coding concepts feel completely accessible.

Each week, they build little scenes together: moving characters, giving them dialogue, and bringing their ideas to life. It’s truly impressive to watch. Congratulations to the ItsMyBot team!

I couldn’t be happier with my choice!

  • My son started a foundational course on coding

My son started a foundation course on coding with itsmybot to learn how to apply his creative skills and it has been an amazing and passionate journey.

His tutor is very patient and engaging making his learning experience enjoyable. Based on his experience, he looking forward to progressing to the next level of fun and yet productive experience.

  • A Great Learning Experience

We’ve had such a lovely experience with Itsmybot. My son started his coding journey here with the basics, and it has been wonderful to see how much he has grown and developed his interest over time.

What we especially love is that he has continued learning with them instead of stopping after one course. He started with basic coding, then moved on to robotics, and he is now learning Roblox. Each new step has kept him excited and curious to learn more.

As a parent, it’s really rewarding to see your child genuinely enjoy learning something new and feel proud of what he can create.

I would happily recommend Itsmybot to other parents looking for a fun and engaging way for their children to learn coding and technology.
